Giant turtle shapes appear as we take a look at an image on Mars taken by the MOC of the East Ophir Chasm. Two of the features appear to be upright turtle shapes, a third feature shows what looks like the underside of a turtle. These shaped features are huge.
This image was taken early in the MOC mission during the aerobraking stage of the Mars Global Surveyor's journey. The satellite went low into Mars orbit during aerobraking in order to use the drag of the Martian atmosphere to help slow it down, allowing it to come into a safe and steady orbit around the planet Mars. During these lower descents, it took some of its highest resolution images of the Martian surface, much higher than the resolution we see from some of the more recent themis images of the same area.
When this image first appeared on the enterprise mission website, Richard Hoagland speculated that this may be a spaceship in which he believed he saw windows. Is this turtle-like shape concave or convex? For more on this question, click on my web page: Ship or Crater?
In the same MOC image, there are other turtle shell-like patterns on the ground, adding a bit of mystery to this landscape:
Chronos refers to this one as a half saucer:
Here is a Youtube video I put up showing this whole region:
The Mars Rovers, Spirit and Opportunity, also discovered some turtle shell shaped objects on the ground.
This one was found by "js."
Here is another on this video:
I believe the following one was found by "Sculptornut," at sol 249, Opportunity rover:
The next one has two turtle shaped features (green), and a seashell or snail shape (orange):
This is a very curious object discovered by "Humanoid" of Alien Anomalies forum - discussed at this link:
It was photographed on sol 124 by the Spirit rover navcam, and some have suggested that it looks something like a turtle.
Here's another odd thing that looks like a head coming out of a whacky looking shell:
It was photographed by the Spirit pancam at a great distance at sol 582:
It looks like the empire strikes back elephant-like machine and is found on a hillside near a piece of debris that looks like a toppled statue:
The microscopic imager found a disc shaped feature with a tortoise shell pattern (movement is added in this false 3d image):
